Session News #2: Board term limits bill deferred in Senate Retirement Committee
Apr 9, 2019A bill that would establish term limits for the TRSL Board of Trustees and other state and statewide retirement systems was deferred by its author at this morning’s Senate Retirement Committee meeting.
- Senate Bill 14 (Sen. Peacock) would limit the ability of elected board members of state/statewide retirement systems from running for a term that would allow that board member to serve more than 12 consecutive years.
- Allow an elected member of a board with five-year terms to serve 15 consecutive years;
- Exclude partial terms, filled due to a vacancy, from the12- or 15-consecutive year limit; and
- Make the law, if enacted, prospective only.
