Regular Session News #1: Regular session starts today, many bills would affect TRSL

Nov 1, 2016

The 2016 Regular Legislative Session starts today, and 30 bills that affect TRSL and its members have been filed for this session. A list of legislation impacting TRSL, including the positions taken by the TRSL Board of Trustees on each bill, is available on the Legislation page of our website.

Retirement bills are typically heard first in either the House or Senate retirement committees. The chair of the Senate Retirement Committee is Sen. Barrow Peacock, and the chair of the House Retirement Committee is Rep. J. Kevin Pearson.

You can find out more about these committees, including their members, by visiting their websites, Senate Retirement Committee and House Retirement Committee.

Last week, the 2016 First Extraordinary Session called by Gov. John Bel Edwards ended. While several bills proposed additional funding toward the unfunded accrued liability (UAL), no bills affecting TRSL members were considered during the special session.

Upcoming meetings:

The House retirement committee is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, March 17. No bills are on the agenda for consideration.
