Founded in 1936, TRSL is a governmental defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code as a public trust fund to provide retirement benefits for its members. Our goal is to provide exceptional member services, including accurate and timely benefit payments to all eligible retirees, beneficiaries, and survivors.

Employer Training

Employers play an important role in the retirement process. To make sure you have all the information you need, TRSL offers a number of employer training opportunities throughout the year. These resources include semi-annual employer procedures workshops, online training sessions through convenient web-conferencing, and on-site training at your request.

We encourage you to take advantage of these great opportunities to freshen up your retirement knowledge and get answers to your reporting questions.

Reduction-in-Force Webinars (for active members): TRSL has scheduled webinars for active TRSL members who face layoffs or reduction-in-force actions. Participants will learn what their options are concerning their TRSL retirement. Time is allotted for a question-and-answer period.

Employer support services (on-site training)

Our Employer Support Services Group provides customized, on-site training and support. Upon request, we’ll visit employers to assist them with any of the following reporting tasks:
  • Retrieval, review, and completion of outstanding questionable year reports (to certify data for benefit computation and eligibility service credit)
  • Completion of sick leave data reporting (using online update programs and information on FTP submissions)
  • Completion of annual leave data reporting (for colleges, universities, technical colleges, and state agencies only)
  • Information gathering (retrieving or collecting back years and current year data)
  • Inputting and updating data using TRSL’s online tools and reports
To request on-site training and assistance, use the ASK TRSL form. In your request, please include what type of assistance is needed.

Employer procedures workshops

  • These workshops are open to staff members of employers who report contributions to TRSL and who want further instruction on TRSL procedures.

Cash Balance Plan
Because of continued legislative action that would suspend implementation of the Cash Balance Plan, all employer training workshops have been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. TRSL will continue to monitor bills related to the Cash Balance Plan, and determine the need for future training sessions.
